Bamboo section tray. Bamboo sections like this were traditionally used by the Karen as plates and serving dishes. We have added the rattan handle for contemporary use.
These bamboo section trays take three months to make. The bamboo sections are first divided into half, then immersed in water for four weeks. They are then slowly dried in shade for another six weeks. After this the basket weaver adds the rattan handle. The bamboo section is then smoked. Both the immersion in water and the smoking process ensure that the finished product is free of insects. The smoking also deepens the colour of the bamboo, giving it a beautiful patina. After three months, the bamboo section is washed and waxed.
Directions for use: Keep dry at all times. Never fill the sections with water or damp materials.
